Free 3D programs besides Blender?

I'm looking for a free 3D program I can use to make characters. JUST make characters. I don't want to go into animating it for a little bit until I get used to the modeling. So basically, what i need is a good, free, 3D modeling program that isn't blender. Preferably something for beginners or something less complicated than most programs. I want to take things slowly for as when I jump in all at once, I get confused and frustrated.
